4 Game Brainstorm

 Game Brainstorm

In this blog post I will be brainstorming 4 possible ideas for the game that I need to create for Multi media Development using the Unity engine.

Game Idea Number 1: Endless Runner
The first idea that I was thinking of doing was possibly an endless runner style of game. The premises of an endless runner would be to continue on a certain path with no end goal. The main objective would be too last for as long as you can. It would also include obstacles in the players path and if bumped into the game would end. The score could be checked by using a timer to track how long the player lasts on one run or you could also use a system to track the distance the player has travelled. To also add an extra element to the game I could also add something that needs to be collected while running, possibly coins or a different sort of item that could be counted as well as the distance or time travelled.

In terms of style the game I was thinking maybe following either a cyberpunk style or maybe a Japanese samurai style. I really like theses two styles matching the past with future and I really like the use of color with bright purples, blues, greens and pinks

Now that I think of it both styles could mix together really well. Ill include some examples of the type of style I was thinking of.
Some examples of an endless runner would be subway surfers, temple run, crossy road and jetpack joyride

Idea Number 2: Point and Click/ First-Person Shooter
My second idea is a clicker shooter style of game. My main idea for it would be to have enemy's appear on the screen and the mouse has to be moved to aim at the  enemy and clicked to fire the weapon. This would become more difficult as the enemy's appear quicker on the screen and the players reaction time must be quicker also.
The game could have different styles it could have a war setting or a normal city setting with gangs instead of soldiers. Or I could either go the route of a zombie apocalypses either. Here are some examples of themes I was thinking of.

Idea 3:Platformer
My third idea was a 3d style platformer. the aim of a platformer would be to start at one point on the map and by running and jumping over obstacles to reach the end point of the map in a set time. As of style of game I'm not quite sure what I would go with but this genre of game is very broad which gives me a large group of themes and styles to work with
Some examples of platformers would be super Mario or sonic the hedgehog.

Idea 4: Item Finder
The last idea that I had would be an item finder style of game. The premise would be the player will be a large room filled with objects and other things and they have a list of objects that they need to find in a set amount of time. I'm not sure how difficult this would be to do but if each time the game starts the items are placed into a different location so if you play it again, the items wont be in the same place. The location could be a large room or office building or something along those lines am not sure yet. Here are some examples of environments the game could be set in.

  1. some great ideas here, especially the item finder one , seems like a really cool concept. I like your endless runner idea the most , a samurai /cyberpunk theme could be really good and definitely doable . I also looked at a fps shooter but they seem so hard to make but if you pulled it off it would be amazing. Looking forward to seeing what game you create.

  2. Hey Adam, Love the ideas. It seems we both have similar games we were looking to make. I love the sound of the cyberpunk endless runner game. I think using bright colours will definitely keep the game interesting and you could really play around with the colour and making the game a bit more manic. Looking forward to see what you pick for the final game and where you go with it.

  3. Hi Adam, the idea of an item finder game is really interesting. What you could possibly do is make the item finder game into a sort of point and click adventure style game like your second idea, somewhere along the lines of the game 'Grim Fandango'. The idea of an FPS game is also very interesting and the zombie apocalypse premise is something that can't fail and you could implement a load of interesting mechanics like an infection meter possibly where if you are bit by one of the zombies, an infection meter will pop up and will start filling up and when it fills up all the way the player loses.

  4. Hi Adam,

Your first idea for a endless runner is a classic game idea that has been proven to be very addictive and enjoyable. I think the style of how you could design the game are pretty sick, Cyberpunk/Japanese samurai would really be intriguing visual wise.

For your second idea about a point and clicker game, I think that would work really well, it does indeed sound hard to pull off but worth it 100%. Would you gain points to access more weapons as you 'level up' after each round?

In regards to the point and clicker, it would be sick if you incorporated your visual design styles for your first idea into the second idea. Best of luck for designing your game!

    Linda.
