Game Vision Statement (Neo Dash)

 Game Vision Statement (Neo Dash)

(Introduction)

Neo dash is and endless runner style of game which is set in a near future setting of Tokyo Japan. The game will follow an unnamed character as he traverses his way along a set path collecting items for wealth and slashing through obstacles that get in his way. A mysterious higher power will also keep track of the distance that has been travelled and the amounts of items he has gathered along his journey. Will he reach the end of his journey along this path or will he stumble and fail along the way.

(Background)

The idea this game will follow the same concept and structure of popular mobile endless runner games. Here is a list of games that would fall into the category of the style and genre of game that I was planning on making.

Temple run was a popular endless runner  game. Developed by Imagni studios was a mobile game  which also was available for pc. It followed an unnamed explorer who found an item of treasure that he was searching for. The game begins with you collecting said item and running out the entrance of a temple while you are chased by figures that appear to be disformed monkeys of some nature.

The player then takes control of the explore as the travel down a straight path collecting coins along there journey and also dodging obstacles at the same time. At certain points the player must do an action to traverses further. This could be that they must jump over a gap in the path, turn left or right or slide under a wall that is blocking there way.

This game also had mechanics of keeping count of the distance that was traversed and the amount of coins that were collected which could then be used to buy different character of items that aided the player. The game became quite popular due to its addicting gameplay that it spawned a sequel which expanded on the mechanics that worked well in the first iteration of the game. This sequel was called temple run 2.

Another game that became quite popular in this genre is jet pack joyride. Jet pack joyride was developed by half brick studios and like temple run is available on mobile and pc. The game follows the same premise and mechanics that I have mentioned before.

The game has you taking control of an unnamed individual as he burst through the wall of a scientific lab and steals a prototype jetpack that is being developed. The main goal is to see how long the character can last dodging obstacles such as lasers and rockets that are being fired at them. The speed of the player also gradually gets faster and faster over time so it becomes more difficult to dodge and avoid said obstacles. Unlike temple run jetpack joyride is a 2D style of game where temple run is in the third perspective.
As of writing this a sequel has been announced for jetpack joyride but it has not been released yet.

(Description)
You start the game as you see the background of a futuristic neo Tokyo. The bright lights of pinks blues and purple fill the dark night with light. As you press a key your target appears. He stops to catch his breath for a second. He sees you coming and starts to run again. Your character jumps onto the screen. A figure, dressed in black with accents of bright  color which light him up. His faced completely covered and a sword on his back.

You then take control as you begin to traverse the path set along the streets. You maneuver past boxes, your targets henchman and other obstacles but don't worry some are quite weak and you are able to cut through them quite easily but be careful one stumble and you've lost your target forever.

As time passes you become more eager to catch him and eliminate the target, your eagerness allows you to move faster but at the cost of vision are your reaction times quick enough or will it be a disadvantage to you in the long run.
(Key Features)
Third person perspective
A counter which is able to tell you how far or how long you have travelled for
Collectible items. Examples of this could be coins but has not been decided yet.
A dark backdrop but shows color through the setting of neo cyberpunk Tokyo.
Possibly a counter to keep track of the furthest distance that was travelled.
Game becomes more difficult overtime due to the speed of movement increasing.

(Genre)
As explained in the background the genre  of this game will be an endless runner. this style of game was and still is quite popular on mobile platforms
(Platform)
In terms of platform this game will be released on pc but I do this it working on mobile also if there an audience there for it
To conclude here is some concept imagery relating to the style of game I wish to create

  1. Hey Adam,

I really like the idea of Neo Dash, The whole concept to me looks like a new and refreshed runner game similar to temple run or even subway surfers. I have noticed over the last while the whole vaporwave style really starting to get popular, it seemed to have quite a similar art style to what was shown for Neo dash. Have you considered the possibility of maby adding different character's to your final game or is the game solely based around just the one character? This can be a great way to push players to unlock skins by completing levels etc.
